What is an LPVO?
LPVO stands for Low Power Variable Optic. These scopes are designed to provide a low starting magnification with the ability to zoom for more detail. A common LPVO might span ranges such as 1-4x, 1-6x, 1-8x, or 1-10x.
The defining feature is the low-power end. At or near 1x, an LPVO can provide a wide field of view and fast visual orientation compared with higher-powered scopes.
What is an MPVO?
MPVO stands for Medium Power Variable Optic. The term is less rigidly standardized, but it generally describes scopes that begin above true low power and extend into moderate magnification ranges, such as 2-10x, 2-12x, 3-9x, or 4-12x.
MPVOs give up the near-1x viewing experience in exchange for more emphasis on magnification and detail.

LPVOs are not always lighter than MPVOs. Tube diameter, objective size, turret design, glass, and magnification range can all affect weight. Compare actual specifications instead of assuming one category is automatically smaller.
Which should you choose?
Choose an LPVO if you value very low magnification and want one optic to transition from a broad low-power view into moderate zoom.
