An MPVO, or Mid-Power Variable Optic, bridges the gap between an LPVO and a high-magnification rifle scope. It gives you a lower starting magnification for closer targets while still providing enough magnification for more precise shots at distance, making it a versatile choice for hunting, range use, and general-purpose rifles.
A 3-9x is a proven, straightforward magnification range that works especially well for hunting and general range use. A 2-10x gives you a wider usable range, with lower magnification for closer targets and additional magnification when you need more detail at distance.
A lot of tactical setups prefer a 2-10x with a red dot as their 1x piggyback or canted to cover the entire range of magnification, but that is entirely up to you.
With a First Focal Plane (FFP) scope, the reticle scales as you change magnification, keeping its holdover and ranging marks consistent throughout the magnification range. With a Second Focal Plane (SFP) scope, the reticle remains the same apparent size, giving you a simple, easy-to-see sight picture. Triton offers both so you can choose the setup that best fits your shooting style.
An Adjustable Objective, or AO, allows you to compensate for parallax at different distances while bringing the target image into sharper focus. It's especially useful when shooting smaller targets, working at varying distances, or when greater precision matters. Select Triton MPVO models feature AO adjustment for added control.
There isn't one fixed maximum distance because effective range also depends on your rifle, ammunition, target size, conditions, and shooting ability. MPVOs are designed to provide a versatile balance between a wide field of view at lower power and increased target detail at higher magnification, making them well suited for everything from closer-range shooting to more precise shots at extended distances. It's not for PRS, but has applications in most situations.
